Final thoughts...
After looking at the two sources that I found in the text, I find it very reasonably to think that the writers of the book could have made an edit of the account of the water turning blood red. I am in no way discounting that it actually happened, but I believe it was due to either a bacteria caused the by the divine Protagonist:"Yahweh" , or by algae somehow occurring in the waters in the Nile. I venture to say that if events like that have happened in recent times they could have happened in the days of the text I reference. I believe the writers were making a smart decision to say it was blood because they were trying to explain an event that did occur, and all the writers did was make sense of it to them in their current mindset. To expound on that lets look at the time period in which it was written. Could the writers actually come up with a scientific reason why the river in the Nile turned red? Certainly not modern science is far more advanced now than it was back in those times, but I do commend them for making a good story with a definite twist.
Strange Event in Texas 2011!!
Exodus 7:18 "And
the fish that are in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the
Egyptians shall loathe to drink of the water of the river.”
In 2011 a reservoir is texas turned
the color red, and many of the people of the town were scared that the end was
near! After scientists and wildlife analyzed the situation they
discovered that the cause of the red water was because of a bacteria that
thrives in oxygen deprived bodies of water. Would you guys like to take a
look?? http://www.livescience.com/15346-texas-lake-blood-red.html
After reading this source it appears that the
cause was by bacteria, so could the event that occurred in the bible text be the
same as this event? I would like ti venture out an say it is a a possibility.
WEATHER PHENOMENON: Blood Red Sea in Australia ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLtTOmvTqrk
This was a clip I found on YouTube that I remember making headlines around the world! interesting account, and the scientist had discovered that the actual reason for this phenomena was caused by Red algae and it was caused by an algae bloom that turned the waters blood shot red. So could red algae have been the cause of the waters in Egypt to turn red, and could the writers actually have made an edit so that the story could be more convincing to the readers? Keep reading in hopefully we will find out the answer.
can water turn into blood or was it an event that has been embellished for readers?
This week I had the opportunity to read Exodus, and I came across some interesting stories that I can go on for days about! The whole ordeal of the Israelites escape was enough to make me bite my finger nails at some points (lol)! I could go into how the Isrealites acted after they left Egypt, the ten commandments, but the topic that peeked my interest was the event that occurred in Exodus 7:14! The notion that the water turned into blood made me think to myself " could water actually turn into blood"? It is a question that seemed unanswerable at first, but then I thought about a story I heard in the news about water turning red a couple years ago. So my mind went into the discussion we had in class on Friday about story telling, and how these writers may have embellished the actual account to make a better story. So my Question is could water actually turn red, and could the writers of the book of Exodus have made the actual account of this event into something far more fascinating such as blood?
